Bill... Just read your posting on a DPReview thread about shooting a D-200 at ISO 1600. Based on your comments, I thought you might have some relevant advice for me. I would have preferred contacting you via e-mail. But where I am today, I don't have e-mail access. But if you respond, please do so to the e-mail address that I posted below. Most people who need to shoot at high ISO do so because of a low light situation. In my case, the light is not partucularly low. But, like you, I have a need to shoot at a high shutter speed. I am a sailor on Lake Erie and shoot sailboats from the deck of another boat. The deck of a heeling and bouncing sailboat is obviously not a platform conducive to either a tripod or a stable handheld position. In addition, I'm shooting a D-200 with a non-VR telephoto lens (up to 300mm). With the combination of non-VR telephoto and unstable shoting platform, the only obvious solution to getting decently sharp photos is high shutter speed. This is fine in mid-day. But as sundown approaches for mid-week evening races, the fading light requires cranking up the ISO. Short of investing in a VR lens (or D-300), do you have any hints about how high I should crank the ISO of a D-200 in these conditions and still keep noise low enough to permit good-quality enlargements (up to 10X14 for 5X7 proportions) for my fellow yacht cub members who love my photos of their own boats in racing action? Does shooting Raw have any particular beneft with respect to noise alone under these conditions? We're talking about a shooting perspective close enough to see on-deck crew work and individual faces. So a level of noise reducion that wipes out detail isn't a favored solution. Thanks in advance. BTW I haven't reviewed your whole site, but love some of your portraits. Besides the sailing photography, that's another area of particular interest to me. For portraits, my 90mm f2.8 Tamron seems to be noticeably sharper (and has better Bokeh) than any of my three Nikon lenses (including a 50mm f1.4) Doug Haag Toledo, OH

Wow you photos are amazing. I was checking out the South Dakota North Dakota section. Noticed you were shooting in Mobridge and Pollock. Very cool I used to go out there every summer. I have a few relatives in that area.

DUDE! All this time and I have to catch up--am WAAAAYY impressed. Love the portraits--wish you were closer. B&W has always been a fav of mine--orig coney island, mill ruins, oven, fire escape, stonearch bridge--wow. Loved the camera tour--what sane, funny little travelers--esp liked Mon. in roermond, Thirsty in Perth, perth sunrise, pinnacles, early am yellowknife, binary, which one, bareback, steamboat springs sculpture, legs 21 and 22 for their innovation and humor and sleeping it off. And where do I get my snappies? I am back to site for more Willy G fix

Not telling. Not yet. So tell me, when/how DID you pick up this ability? Have you been at it for awhile? Did you study photography somewhere? How much (if any) touching up by computer do you do? What kind of camera do you use? Is your work displayed anywhere? Are you doing this professionally or is it a hobby?
