Ribes Vive e lavora a Roma, ma la sua vera casa sono i luoghi che fotografa. Nella sua ricerca fotografica si avventura in mondi dalle forme visibili e invisibili, nella luce e nell’oscurità, nella velocità e nella lentezza.
“Ribes ha una biografia straordinaria e insieme tormentata, una vita potremmo dire piena di stupore,
meraviglia. Una vita in cui sono presenti tutti gli ingredienti della favola per bambini: foreste, castelli e streghe, incantamenti della morte e della vita. E insieme del romanzo popolare per adulti: rapimenti, viaggi, stranezze da teatro e circo, adozioni e agnizioni, segreti e destini. i suoi fuochi fatui e il fatuo appartiene ai regimi di una follia danzante – ha tutte le sembianze, le movenze, le grazie dolci e insieme bizzarre, dei folletti. Di queste creature dei boschi ha il carattere umbratile, le pause, le assenze e altrettanto improvvise presenze. La macchina otografica – una volta che ad essa si pensi non come cosa inerte e separata ma come materia viva, interconnessa con tutte le cose rimanenti – trova in lei uno strumento unico per quante
sono le corrispondenze del suo sentire con i sensi panici del mondo intero. E molte delle fotografie che ottiene per sua mano hanno la presenza che soltanto Ribes può avere, sia che essa attraversi le atrocità della storia, sia che sosti nelle radure della vita ordinaria, sia che partecipi ai piccoli e grandi miti dell’arte contemporanea”...].

RIBES SAPPA lives in Rome, Italy, but her true home are the sites she takes pictures of. In her photographic research she visits worlds of visible and invisible shapes, in light and darkness, through speed and very slow pace.
«Ribes has a tormented and extraordinary biography, a life we could qualify as full of great surprise and marvel. An existence with ingredients from children tales: forests, castles and witches, spells of life and death; but also containing elements of the adults’ popular novels: holdups, travels, circus and theatre oddities, adoptions and agnitions, secrets and destinies. Her will-o'-the-wisps – and the frailty of the wisp belongs to the lands of the dancing folly – have the appearance, the movements, the sweet and bizarre grace of the elves. As these creatures of the woods, she possesses the same shades, the pauses, the sudden absences ant the unexpected presences. The camera – once we don’t think of it as an inert and separate object, but as a living matter, interconnected with all the rest of things – finds here a unique instrument : she emotionally links to the Panic senses of the whole world. Many of the photographs she creates reveal the presence that only Ribes can have: traversing the atrocities of history, resting in the glades of ordinary life, or partaking of the great myths of Contemporary Art. »
