Hello Simon,

You galleries are really nice and I like that you have very wide theme variety.
My favorite photos are those that have to do generally with sea, since my country (Greece) is also surrounded by sea like yours.

Regards

Ange, I've sent Kaz an email with the details. However, the password is Karen's oldest's short name :-)

Hi Simon, I'd like to have a look at teh pics from kaz's new years eve do. How do i go about this? All the best, Angelique. I'm trying to convince Stu to get me a 350D for my birthday (I think that's the little sister to your 20D). All the best, Angelique.

Great work Simon, your photography has developed excellently no doubt in part due to your enjoyment of the 20D.
Saw your posts/shots on dpreview and linked through to check out the perth & mining work.
I was in Perth over xmas and had a crack at some panos with my old Canon a70 - you might enjoy this shot (a work in progress along with all my panos) -http://www.pbase.com/holein9/image/54220634/original

I hope that i too can make the jump to the SLR

keep shooting!

Hi Sheila. Yes, I have moved on to the DSLR world and am not regretting it for 1 second, as you can probably see :-) I notice you say "too", so I will have to check your galleries to see where you went!

Hi Simon, I see you have defected from the Nikon camp too. Good luck with your new Canon camera.

Simon, you have terrific captures in your galleries! Quite impressive work..
Thank you for visiting mine and leave your comments. Yes, I upgraded from cybershot to cp5700 and finally to 10D and I must say that reflex has given me much more chances for creativity.
Those frames are a PS action I made by myself, glad that you liked.
Keep posting, regards, Guido

Brian,

I am of the opnion that it's fairly difficult (if not impossible) with the CP5700 to take images with both bright areas and dark areas. That's one of the very first battles I had with this camera when I first got it. Since then, I have learnt to take the photo and then check the histogram view in playback. If you have flashing areas, then they're over-exposed. Either expose more for the darker areas, or use the exposure compensation option on top of the camera (hold down the +/- button while turning the control dial). This will assist. Also, use the spot metering function, not the default matrix mode. This lets you 'set' where the camera meters. My blended shots are typically done on a tripod with 1 shot exposed for the upper third of the frame and the 2nd shot exposed for the lower third. This is so easy to do, but you do need software to merge or blend them. As always, www.dpreview.com/forums are the BEST resource to use. I have improved so much in 6 months.... So, you can too!

Your digital blended photos are very nice, I'm just an amateur with a very basic knowledge of the coolpix 5700. How can I best capture foreground and background highlights, what choice of program modes and or flash with enable me to come away with an image I want. I don't know how to manipulate photographs on the computer, right now I'm just tackling the camera. Thanks Brian
